Well, there it is. The stupidest fucking thing I’ve read today.
How dare those people want to learn more. Do you not understand that people understanding what’s going on with you is a good thing? You people complain about people being ignorant or uniformed about a topic, and then demonized those who wish to learn more.
More people knowing more about your mentality isn’t a bad thing. Like, I’m trying to grasp why you don’t want people to learn. As someone with a mental illness, you should be thrilled to know people in psychology, because they understand better than the average person what’s going on, and they’re more likely to take you seriously.
So speaking as someone who does have a mental illness: if you wanna go into psychology, fucking do it. I’ve taken some classes on it, and it’s a wonderful field of study.

I loved the implication that mentally ill people can’t go into Psychology themselves & help create treatment plans for people like themselves.
The only reason I’m doing so well in my Psychology classes/major & receiving grades above the average is because I’ve been diagnosed, and learned about the system firsthand through being mentally ill. Not a lot of Psych students have that experience nor will ever need it, because surprise!!
Also, @chris-the-libertarian “I’ve taken a few classes” does not = “I’m a psych major, preparing to do my honours thesis within the next year and a half” so really I don’t know what your point was. This is me speaking out about my experiences within my own major. With being pushed out of something I love & hope to rework because of ableism that most DEFINITELY DOES EXIST within it.
Never claimed to be a major in it, I’m not, I’m just saying I find it interesting from what little experience I have in it. Also never said the mentally ill can’t go into it, I said everyone go for it if interested. But hating someone for going into it because they don’t have a mental illness is preposterous. They are trying to learn more about mental illness, your mental illness, and you demonize them for it. That is my point, do not demonize people for wanting to learn more about where you’re coming from.

@chris-the-libertarian I know what you said, which is why I called you out in encouraging people who are ‘neurotypical’ (used lightly) to get into the *MAJOR*. I don’t care if people take general classes, fuck I could give half a shit about my classmates in those classes. What I care about are those who major in it, those who make it to second year, then third, then their honors thesis and then grad school. Because I, as a major, have to deal with their elitism and ableism, something you don’t understand nor realize since it’s not your major.

I’m mentally ill, I have been put on disability before but I can still function. This isn’t a horrible fucking curse I’m living with. What makes me so endearing to myself is that I am able to carry around my misery successfully, just by living. Psych majors being mentally ill is NEVER A BAD THING. It’s not some kind of curse. Honestly my statement still stands. If you go into the field expecting to heal us with your curiosity and able fingers, I fucking hate you. Because that is where we receive the most mistreatment & abuse. Being hospitalized? Group therapy sessions? Absolutely terrifying experiences because of those who hold the power.
The best treatments I’ve received has come from counseling through those that are also mentally ill. What medications I should avoid and take? I’ve learned through the mentally ill and/or disabled community. If not for other people with firsthand experience, my doctor would still have me on Paxil. Which I genuinely think would have killed me at some point.
Your knee jerk reaction to the statement “I hate” clouds your judgement about why I hate. My anger is justified and not misplaced. And fuck you for telling me other wise about my own personal experiences.
