somebody help me articulate why this sucks

Because it’s a post whining about not including every single type of body type there is but instead just doing some general ones. That’s why this sucks.

It actually doesn’t suck. It actually brings up some very valid points if you’d actually care to analyze it further.

The bodies included share numerous things in common: curvy, relatively fair skin (even the one in the dead-center; she’s fairer skinned than the darker woman in the pic), young, nice-looking hair, and female. These are the common body types that are celebrated by people claiming to be body positive. I’ve also noticed that they excluded the larger white woman, which I would argue should have been in the “acceptable” zone as well, but that’s my only argument against this image. (just so you know kevinbolk)

NONE of the ones in the “acceptable” zone are male. This is a very common problem with mainstream body positivity because it constantly kicks men out of the equation under the assumption that they don’t need it (which is false). boy-positive I’m pretty certain would agree with me here.

The man that sticks out most is the fat one that’s getting smacked in the back of the head. This is no mistake either because his body type is the quintessential image of the “dudebro”/”neckbeard” that Tumblr invokes when they attack someone they think is a male disagreeing with them. Despite being “body positive”, and even worse than just ignoring male body positivity, the body acceptance crowd is involved in the Tumblr hate mob that SHAMES men for their body (with virginity usually implied as well) in addition to assaulting their personality. It’s a complete double standard no matter how you look at it.

By extension, that’s also why Vivian James isn’t in the “acceptable” zone. Based on her body type she should be in the center, but because she stands as the mascot for GamerGate she isn’t. This brings up another important point: body acceptance really only applies to those that subscribe to certain ideologies. If you aren’t in on the Tumblr Kool Aid, at least in some kind of flavor, then you are just as likely to get body shamed as the fat man. Hypocritical to the max.

The others should be rather self-explanatory.

Just noticed the hair colour of the woman doing the hitting. Nice touch.
