To the trans kids starting their name change: It’s hard. You will refer to yourself as your deadname. You might even forget your new name once or twice. You will hate that you still respond to your deadname, and you won’t be sure what to write down on the top of your school papers. Even when you leave your old name behind, you may find yourself in a weird gray area where both names are equally yours and equally not, and you’re not sure what to respond to. But please don’t worry. Because one night in a dream you will call yourself by the name you chose, and when you wake up you will realize that your subconscious has accepted this change, and that even in sleep you are who you want to be.
