I cried at this scene. It was unexpected and out of the blue, and I bawled my eyes out. Never have I seen such a display of a queer relationship on a children’s cartoon. One that was treated as normal, one no one saw as offensive or wrong.

Two female coded characters who were in love, who argued like any couple does, who have their differences but make up in the end.

All of the young queer kids watching Steven Universe will see Ruby and Sapphire and know that how they feel is okay, that who they are is okay. It will do so much good for them to see the characters that they love are like them.

Do not call Ruby and Sapphire ‘just friends’ or ‘gal pals’. Do not make it out that Ruby is male just to call the relationship is straight.

Do not take characters like Ruby and Sapphire away from queer kids.
