For folks that keep trying to insist transsexualism was a thing that was invented in America in the 1950s, keep in mind that the Chevalier D’Eon had her name and gender marker legally changed by the court of Louis XVI in France ten years before the United States even had a Constitution.

Her chosen name was Lia De Beaumont. Can people lease stop dead-naming Chevalière Lia? She is a very important historical trans and intersex woman. She didn’t just get her name and gender recognized, she blackmailed the king of France into recognizing her name and gender and paying for her an entire new wardrobe. In addition to being a knight she was a secret agent so she had all kinds of dirt on the king. Later in her life she moved to England, wrote a memoir, and opened a fencing school.
