I know we talk about folks who say they’re accepting of transfolk and act differently a lot, but has anyone run into the reverse?

People that say they don’t believe you/think you’re weird, but treat you respectfully anyway

Because my grandpa admits he’s still skeptic but still told me to keep a lighter and pocket knife on all times because “that’s what men do” and it’s like he’s teaching me a thing about gender roles I might’ve missed because of how I was socialized… which, despite sexist undertone there, is kind of sweet? Like he’s REALLY trying to treat me like a man, and, from his perspective, help me PASS

And one of my uncles had a similar reaction of like “Okay, I’ll be honest, I’m not sure that’s a real thing–but c'mere and let me show you how bros hug bros”

And my grandma thinks there’s transfolk, but not that I am trans. But she’s also like “hey maybe a man’s one piece swimsuit from my time will help you feel less dysphoric” like???

Sometimes I feel like I’d be more comfortable around folks who don’t truly believe I’m a guy, but treat me respectfully as such anyway, instead of someone who says they’re for my rights and then goes around doing and saying transphobic bullshit

It’s like “LOL sorry I can’t switch pronouns because you still look girly to me but YAY TRANSFOLK don’t call me cis lol” vs “I’m going to say my honest opinion one time and from there offer to teach you how to shave and pick up chicks” like who would YOU rather be around
